SKALSKI, a Lindab Builder for a number of years, is a flourishing group. Continuing the important development of its activities, this company was hoping to provide itself with more spacious premises for its registered headquarters in Cracow (Poland).

For this new building, the direction that Skalski chose, out of four projects, after consultation with its workforce, was a rounded building of four levels; this curved form symbolises, as wanted by the architect, the logo of the group in the form of an “S”.

The choice of a steel construction corresponded completely to the requirements of the architect, who wanted light and transparent materials. Moreover, the flexibility of the steel made it easier to incorporate all of his demands into the work.

The front columns, made of posts of rectangular tubing, are arranged in the arc of a circle with a radius of 32 metres, over a lenght of 47 metres tall. The columns are placed in the double skin glass security curtain wall. The radiating mezzanine beams consist of castellated IPE profiles, spaced at 1.6m. They allow the passage of utility lines. The in situ concrete slabs lie on the lower flanges of the steel girders.

The installation technique has been simplified by the use of a technical floor. On the inside of the curve is the stairwell, a completely glazed elevator in the same way as for the utility lines. This concrete core also ensures the vertical stability of the building. The tubular posts in this spot are anchored with concrete slabs.

The entrance to the garages entailed The entrance to the garages entailed the placing of curved profiles HEB300 curves.
A construction in the lightest possible recyclable steel, thanks to optimised sizing and extra-thin floors by use of the minimum amount of steel and a small amount of concrete:
the fundamental criteria of sustainable construction have been respected. In order to guarantee energy efficiency and to eliminate all thermal bridges, Lindab buildings has put in place “Schöck Isokorb” components in the posts/girders connections.

The façades are made of an insulated double-glazed frame inserted into the columns, and a system of intelligent sun blades that regulate the intensity of daylight in the offices.
